I build the tank chassis around a TAMIYA remote control Shovel/Dozer kit. The thing is TAMIYA kits kick ass. They are relatively cheap and easily modifiable and extendable.

I ditched the shovel/dozer portion of the kit with this design so I got an extra motor and gear-box to use on future projects. |

This is the gearbox that the kit uses to drive the treads. The kit top mounts the motors with the gears at the base near the treads. You can see it in the top down picture of the kit. |
